Reclaim The Pit

Reclaim the pit is a project about alternative scenes, their internal conflicts and what is at stake in them. Alternative scenes, historically queer refuges, are today being infiltrated by reactionary visual codes. In 2023, SOS Homophobie recorded 2,377 cases of LGBTQI-phobia, underlining the urgency of acting. Reclaim the pit addresses this through a graphic self-defense kit made up of zines, posters, stickers and a participatory platform.

In response to this problem, I designed a graphic self-defense kit for queer and alternative communities: zines, posters, stickers, motion design and an online platform. The tools I chose are those of the culture the project belongs to: fanzines, protest posters, stickers, so that the kit can be taken up and made their own by the people it is meant for.

The graphic system is built around a strong, modular identity, designed to be reproduced and repurposed by others.
